Thresher Tagging Program |
|
The Thresher Tagging Program is a collaborative effort of marine biologists working together to deploy satellite tags in thresher sharks and other pelagic fish, for the purpose of studying the fish's habits and migratory patterns. This group also utilizes pop-up archival tags that regularly collect water temperature, depth and light levels while deployed on the fish. At a specified time and date, the tag will release from the fish, float to the surface and transmit the archived data to an Argos satellite, which will then send it to a team of researchers. The data will then be broken down and used to recreate the three dimensional movements and behavior of the fish in it's environment. The information derived from these two types of tags provide researchers, fishermen, and fishery managers the life history and ecological data essential for the conservation of thresher sharks and other critically important species.

| Florida Program for Shark Research |
Florida Program for Shark Research is located at the University of Florida's Museum of Natural History. They are a leader in both domestic and international elasmobranch (class of fish that is comprised of sharks, skates and rays) conservation. FPSR also does extensive research in a number of shark related fields including shark biology, ecology and behavior. The FPSR is best known for monitoring shark attacks through the International Shark Attack File in an attempt to better understand shark/human interactions. This is a unique organization dedicated to scientific research, public outreach and the general education of our natural resources.

Save The Bay represents Narragansett Bay and it's surrounding community's interest by encouraging investment in the Bay's future. Save The Bay and it's supporters are an active force in southern New England working to protect, restore and explore Narragansett Bay and it's watershed. They advocate for better Bay management on local, state and federal levels and work hard to restore bay habitat including salt marshes, eelgrass beds, fish runs and shorelines into healthier and functioning conditions. Save The Bay also provides educational programs that seek to create a community of Bay citizens who will preserve the Bay through forward thinking educational initiatives.
