Sunglass Technology

Developed by the OHO team and a group of optical scientists, 601 lens technology gives serious fishermen an unmatched optical advantage on the water. OHO’s sunglasses are offered in both 601 NXT and 601 GLASS lenses, an innovation that will allow anglers to see further beneath the water line than ever before. NXT and GLASS lenses feature enhanced polarization, photochromic filters, flash mirrors, an antireflective back coating, a scratch resistant coating and are oil repellent, water repellent and fog resistant.

The majority of performance sunglasses on the market today provide consumers with two layers of polarization. In comparison, OHO’s 601 NXT and GLASS sunglasses provide three layers of polarized protection, significantly reducing glare amplified by flat surfaces and eliminating optical distortion prevalent in other polarized sunglasses.

In addition to a third layer of polarized protection, Old Harbor Outfitters offers top anglers The Photochromic Advantage™.  OHO’s photochromic 601 lenses darken within sixty seconds of being exposed to UV radiation and continue to darken over the next fifteen minutes depending upon the level of UV exposure. Once the UV exposure is removed, the lenses will gradually fade back to their original shade. OHO’s photochromic 601 lenses provide competitive fishermen unmatched clarity and improved depth perception on the water.

Why is OHO's 601 NXT better than Polycarbonate? NXT®

ENHANCED POLARIZATION
Unlike most polarized sunglasses, OHO's 601 NXT lenses are designed with three layers of polarization. This high definition optical system is the number one choice for glare reduction among serious sportfishermen. In addition, OHO NXT lenses are compact in design to allow for the application of multiple high-performance coatings. Triple polarization is integral to our sunglass technology and is exclusively offered by the Old Harbor Outfitters.

LIGHTWEIGHT
Our NXT is 16% lighter than CR-39 and 10% lighter than Polycarbonate.

SUPERIOR ANTI-SCRATCH PROPERTIES
OHO NXT lenses feature a superior scratch-resistant anti-static coating, which does not attract dust. Unlike polycarbonate and polyamide, NXT lenses are not affected by common chemicals or solvents (i.e. acetone and methyl alcohol).

UNBREAKABLE FOR LIFE
Our NXT is stronger than any lens material and is guaranteed not to break or crack, even in harsh saltwater conditions. NXT® is used in Apache helicopter windshield panels and airplane cockpit doors post September 11th.

ANTI-REFLECTIVE BACK COATING

When the sun is on your back, polarized light can reflect off of the inside lens face and back into your field of vision. Our multi-layer, anti-reflective back coating uses alternating high and low-index materials to eliminate the reflection at all wavelengths. This reduces eye fatigue and eliminates glare from various angles.

FLASH MIRROR
Polarized filters eliminate reflected glare caused by polarized light. However, this does not stop non-polarized glare from passing through the lens surface and disturbing your visual perception. A flash mirror applied to the outer surface of NXT lenses eliminates non-polarized glare. It also reduces any reflection from the lens onto your face. What does this translate to? No glare, no sunburn, no discomfort on the water.

HYDROPHOBIC [WATER REPELLING]
Our proprietary hydrophobic coating is chemically engineered to repel the internal hydrogen bonds of water. When water contacts the lens surface, the hydrophobic coating forces the water molecules down the lens, giving you the optical precision you need out on the water.

OLEOPHOBIC [OIL REPELLING]
The lipids that make up oil will stick to almost anything. Our oleophobic coating makes it extremely difficult for oil molecules to grab hold of the NXT lens surface. This means that oil, blood, and even ink doesn’t stand a chance.

ANTI FOG
When the air temperature changes more than 5°F, water vapor begins to accumulate on the surface of most lenses. Our anti-fog NXT lenses contain a component that forces the lens to change temperatures at a more gradual rate so you can wear your sunglasses in any weather condition without jeopardizing optical clarity.

Most sunglasses on the market today utilize CR-39 or polycarbonate lenses which have been around for over 40 years. There have been few innovations and advancements in high impact-resistant optical polymer development until the introduction of NXT®.

NXT® is a family of patented polyurethane optical polymers originally developed for the military to provide superior protection and optical performance.

NXT® was designed by Simula Technology Inc in the early 1990’s after the U.S. Government contracted them to build a new bullet-proof, transparent, light-weight material capable of providing superior protection, optical precision and longer lasting performance than a typical polycarbonate. The material is used in Apache helicopter windshield panels and airplane cockpit doors post September 11th.
